Itinerary

Day 1: Zurich

Welcome to the heart of Europe! Once you arrive in Zurich, check into your hotel for an overnight stay. The remainder of the day is yours to see the sights at your leisure. Spend time strolling through Zurich’s Altstadt—or Old Town. The district is framed by alpine mountains and stretches along both banks of the Limmat River. You’ll find cobblestone-paved streets lined with Renaissance-era architecture, charming cafes, world-class restaurants and entertainment, as well as boutique shops to buy authentic Swiss crafts. (Overnight in Zurich with bed and breakfast)

Day 2: Zurich to St. Moritz

Enjoy breakfast and then take a scenic open rail ride from Zurich to St Moritz. When you arrive, take a relaxing stroll around the lake and enjoy the chic town itself. St Moritz is said to enjoy some of the freshest air in Europe and is the home of Alpine sports. Your visit might even coincide with a tobogganing race down the historical ‘Cresta Run’ which dates back to 1885, or the city centre ice skating ring in the summer. At night you could enjoy some of the classic glitz and glamour of the St Moritz Casino. (Overnight in St Moritz with bed and breakfast)

Day 3: Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Zermatt

Following breakfast, you’ll get to travel in first class to enjoy the full splendour of one of Switzerland’s most famous journeys, The Glacier Express. Early in the journey, the train cruises over the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which is a marvel of Swiss engineering from a bygone era. This train is otherwise known as one of the slowest express train in the world, and winds its way over numerous high passes and meanders past many small Swiss lakes and villages until pulling into Zermatt nearly 8 hours after departure. (Overnight Zermatt with bed and breakfast)

Day 4: Zermatt to Geneva

After breakfast, travel from Zermatt to Geneva with a change in Visp. Discover the cosmopolitan city of Geneva’s top attractions and hidden treasures through charming alleys and passageways on your own. Beside the Jetée des Eaux-Vives, the breakwater enclosing Geneva’s harbour, watch the Jet d’Eau shoot a stream of water more than 450 feet into the air. In old town, visit the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre before making your way to Place du Bourg-de-Four (possibly the oldest square in Geneva) and enjoy a delicious dinner and an aperitif. (Overnight in Geneva with bed and breakfast)

Day 5: End of tour

Enjoy breakfast then check out of your hotel and continue with your onward travels. To arrange rail or airfare to and from the UK, to extend your stay in any of the destinations, or to continue your rail adventure into Italy, speak to one of our expert travel agents!
